Our story

We are a couple based in the UK, the kind of people who measure our lives not in years but in boarding passes! We literally count down the days until we fly out again, even if it is a place we have seen multiple times before. Fifty-something countries later, we’ve become fluent in three things: reading a room, packing a carry-on with alarming efficiency, and knowing within a rather short time whether a hotel is going to be magic or a mistake.

We have slept in castles (this will not make it to the blog as it has been a while!) and pod-like rooms, in converted lighthouses and boutique hotels that turned out to be a genuine gem (and a few that very much did not). We notice the things you can’t see in the listing: whether the pillows are clouds or bricks, whether “sea view” means the ocean or a car park with ambition, and whether the breakfast buffet is worth setting an alarm for.

So we started writing it all down. Honestly, and occasionally at length, because we’d rather tell you the truth than the brochure version. Our reviews are the reviews we wish we had had before booking — the details that matter, the warnings that save a trip, and the hidden treasures worth crossing a continent for. Whether you are planning a once-in-a-lifetime splurge or just trying to avoid the hotel with the mysteriously damp corridor, we have probably been there. Literally.
